Coconut Oil for Baby’s Skin

Silvi said, ‘I want to use some cream for my baby’s flakey skin.’  I replied, ‘use coconut oil!’ It’s safe and uniquely moisturising and extremely nourishing for babies skin, as well as for the Mamas! Cold-pressed, virgin, unrefined, organic coconut oil is perfect for massaging into your baby’s skin if it appears a little dry or if your baby has cradle-cap. Best used after bath-time on damp skin and/or when your baby is quiet and it’s possible for you to lightly massage a small amount of the coconut oil into the skin to help with dryness.

The only beauty product you need!

…product for your beauty regime. Well, maybe a couple more but definitely not as many as a lot of people have. I want to extol the virtues of sweet almond oil. It could be my ‘product of the month’ but it’s my product of the year really! You can use it for everything!

Organic Sun Protection

Yes! The sun is shining, well here in Madrid anyway and it’s getting hotter! So it’s the time you should be thinking about what suncreams to buy (note: suncreams usually only last 12 months maximum so throw out any oldies!). Although of course the best way to not burn your skin is to stay out of the direct sun! Wear light clothes, a hat and sunglasses and learn to embrace the coolness of the shade!

Early Spring Clean…

…ok so it’s not quite Spring yet, but it does feel like it’s so close due to this surprisingly warm weather we have had for winter! If it is due to climate change then all the more reason to be that little more ecologically aware, make your green footprint even bigger starting from today!

But back to the body – in winter our skin can become like a lizard’s and needs to be sloughed, brushed and buffed back to shiny, smooth perfection! Our circulation too can be sluggish as perhaps we spend more time inside on the sofa or in bed hibernating! The best way to wake up and renew our skin is by  dry body brushing, an old, old technique that really works.

How long should I keep makeup for…?!

…definitely not as long as you think or do!  I admit that I have had things in my bathroom cupboard for longer than I should, and I think many people continue to use products month after month, year after year without thinking.  All cosmetic products and makeup have an expiry date just like food.  They do go off and deteriorate with time due to exposure to air and contamination by micro-organisms and bacterias that come from our fingers and makeup brushes. The compositions may also separate and often products lose their efficacy, especially suncreams for example. For this reason it is imperative that we take care with our products, and become aware of how long we have had them to decrease the risk of infections, what’s more we don’t want to be using a product that is essentially ‘past its use by date’!
